30L Garden Lawn Roller – Galvanised Steel Drum

This 30L garden lawn roller has been seeing some use in my back garden recently. Out of the box, it is a bit fiddly to assemble and it definitely needs tools to put together properly. You also need to keep an eye on the hardware as the bolts can loosen with use and fall off, which is a bit of an annoyance. But for the price at the time it was still good value.In terms of appearance and materials, it is a standard green drum roller with a fairly large size but compact compared to some of the industrial versions. The quality is decent enough for a basic garden tool. Preparing it for use was simple. It filled with water easily, the plug worked straightforwardly, and it held the water well with no leaks at all.Once filled, it can be a bit heavy and cumbersome to move, but that is to be expected for it to have any effect on the soil. Despite the minor issues with the bolts, it does flatten the ground, but it might take 2 or 3 rolls to see a real difference for my soil. I quickly learned that softer, not dry hard soil is best. I found on my heavily clay soil that I needed it a bit damp, but not overly waterlogged, to get the roller to do its job properly.This is a more rudimentary tool and not a magic wand, and it might need to be used in conjunction with other tools for good results depending on the initial work needing doing. My garden is quite bad, uneven, heavy clay, and lumpy, so mine needs a hero ensemble of tools to get it looking right. It does the basic job it is meant for, just expect to put a bit of physical effort into the process.

I used this on my fairly small front and back garden. It works really well!I cut the grass low, aerated then scarified it beforehand, and then over seeded with some compost and topsoil. This rolled compacted the seed and soil mix really well to ensure it was leveled slightly and good contact between seed and soil.The rolled was easy to assemble but for the weight of it, the little welded stub axles on the handle seems somewhat undersize. When this is full of water or sand it's very heavy and I tried lifting the unit up by the handle (not sure if that's advised) and the axle popped out. I nipped up the handle width adjustment screws on the cross brace and this didn't happen again.Overall I think this is great for small gardens and DIYers. If you're on the fence I'd say just get it. It's great value and easy to use.

Worked well. I'll have to see how many years it lasts without rusting. I chose to fill and them empty the water as I'm only using it once a year

I needed a smaller compact roller for some of my lawn renovations and this, filled with kiln dried sand, is perfect for the smaller lawns. It doesn’t take up too much space in the van (or the shed when I’m not using it) so it ticks all of my boxes. The only gripe I have is that the spigot for the handle on one side was deformed and needed minor surgery before I could assemble it. That aside it’s a good economical solution if you need a smaller compact roller.

This 30L Garden Roller arrived as described and looks just like the photos advertised.This was very easy to assemble - I’m not great at DIY or reading instructions but I managed to assemble this within a few minutes with no tools required. You just put the bolts through the handle and twist on the bolts - super easy to do.I got this to help level out some soil in my garden before I put turf down. I tried stamping it down but this tool made it 100 times easier! I added water to the barrel which is easy to do - there’s a little silicone cork you take out to fill the inside then screw back in. Once filled with water it’s quite heavy which is ideal for what I needed it for.The great thing about this tool is you can add as much or as little water inside as you need making it very versatile. The metal is great quality and very smooth which makes hosing it down and cleaning it afterwards very easy.I’m delighted with this tool, for the money I think it’s great value for a super durable roller. I would highly recommend it!

After years of having a bumpy lawn that looked like a patchwork quilt, this roller has made such a difference. Filled it with water (much easier than sand) and rolled the whole garden after overseeding in spring. The galvanised steel feels really solid - no wobbles or cheap plastic bits that'll break. Handle height is spot on for me at 5'10". Takes a bit of effort when it's full but Could do with being a bit heavier (it's about 35kg all in) Lawn looks professionally done now and the kids can actually play football without tripping over lumps.

This seems like a strong, well-made roller that has a decent weight to it. There are one or two things that make it not quite perfect. It comes well packed in a box and it is not very heavy until you fill it. Assembly takes a bit of care and you need 2 spanners (not supplied) to tighten the nuts and bolts. You need to adjust the bolts on the scraper bar (which doesn't really scrape) so that the handle fits firmly on to the pins on each side of the drum. Otherwise there is a danger of the bottom ends of the handle popping off the drum. You also need to tighten the nuts progressively one by one in order to get an all-round strength that doesn't wiggle.I have started by filling the drum with water as the easier option. The rubber plug fits nice and tight. If I decide I need a heavier roll (45kg vs 30kg) I may later try the sand option. The lighter weight is fine for preparing a newly-laid soil bed, but may not be enough to even out a well-established lawn, as I want.I have some doubts about how this roller will stand the test of time and use. If the painted surface gets scratched or chipped, I suspect rust may be a problem. It will also be necessary to keep a check on the tightness on the bolts. The nuts are not self-locking. Almost great, but some doubts.

For the price, this is a useful addition to any garden which , when filled with water (you can also use sand) will smooth out the small bumps and troughs on your lawn. Make sure you use it when the ground is moist as it won’t have much of an effect on hard ground. I used it on freshly laid lawn turf, which had been well watered, and it had the desired effect.

The steel fabrication of this roller is okay (the roller draw isn’t actually round due to the welded seam) but it’s the fixtures and fittings which a poor.The bolts for the cross brace are too small and would pull through it without additional washers being used. In the products manual it shows the handle secured with nylock nuts and washers (reducing the likelihood of coming undone) whereas the bolts and nuts provided are low quality.

I ordered this for the specific purpose of flattening and compacting an area in my garden where I'm going to be putting in a channel drain.That will require me lifting some block paving, creating an incline level and as it's not a massive job I decided to see how this would work.I've tested it out before staring the channel and it does a great job at smoothing and compacting the base sand and also the top layer too. It's advertised for lawns but I can confirm it will also work with sand too for those wondering .It's very robust in material and is solid, both the tank roller head and the handles are made from a durable metal and have a painted finish which should prevent rust. The top handle has cushioned padding and this will help prevent blisters when using.I found it somewhat difficult to get the whole thing correctly balanced and inline. I followed the instructions and found that when I was initially rolling the roller beam would pop back out of the drum. You can see this happening in my video.I'd actually recommend ignoring the instructions all together, build the roller beam and handle first, and then clip the scraper into place. It will allow you to get the roller beam true and then you can tighten up the bolts.I personally think the scrapper recess is too wide and think this is more for keeping the roller beam held firm.You'll see on my video how the roller beam kept coming out, if you do the above method first you'll find it works a lot better and holds true.You can either use water or sand and the cap does a great job with keeping the materials inside.My only complaint is the scraper bar bolts are inadequate. They're too small on the bolt end and can come out from the holes. This wasn't an issue for me as I had my own with larger heads and could swap.I found it rolled smoothly and was easy to navigate around. So I do recommend this, just use different bolts for the scraper bar and you should have zero issues.

This lawn roller is okay for the purpose it's designed for. While it's generally decent, the one I received has some more generic issues, and one that's really kind of baffling and speaks to a lack of care and quality.Assembly is easy enough to do - all that's really required is to secure six bolts - two for the scraper bar (you'll need to use the two washers here to stop the bolt going through the holes), and two on each side of the handle section. As with most self-assembly frames/tools, it's easiest to do if you loosely tighten each bolt first, so you have the necessary flexibility to wiggle the last bolts and holes into alignment. It took less than 10 minutes to get the whole thing assembled. The fit isn't amazing, but it doesn't need to be - as long as everything holds together, you're good to go.The padding on the handle is cheap foam that absolutely will not stand up to weather exposure. If you want it to last, you'll need to store this somewhere dry and away from direct sunlight at least. I found it made using the roller less pleasant, and I'd rather use the bare metal and a pair of gardening gloves, so that'll get removed in the future.The roller is surprisingly easy and comfortable to carry when not filled, so my plan for continued use and storage is to break it down when I'm not using it (keeping the bolts in a resealable bag attached to the frame) to save space, and then to fill it with water after moving it out back to my almost-a-lawn (it's a work in progress!) where I can use it, and then drain it to use for watering. Water isn't quite as heavy as sand, but I'll take slightly less effective use over needing to lug around a very heavy roller that I'm not going to need more than once or twice in a given year - and it is much heavier when filled.Talking of draining it, the rubber stopper is a very tight fit (which you want it to be), but it's easy enough to work in and out with a little rotation/rocking motion.I'm not tall at all, and I found the handle length was a bit on the short side. It's okay to start with, but I'd recommend being extra-aware of your body position while using it. I had to bend ever so slightly beyond what felt natural and I felt the consequences of that the next day.So, to the strangest issue. Every part of the roller had that "rainstick" sound you get when a tube is filled with sand, pebbles or similar and tilting it causes the stuff inside to travel from one end to the other. At first I thought that this might be sand from testing during manufacturing or similar, until I saw some of the loose material fall out of one of the side sections. A variety of sizes, fairly spherical and much larger than sand.Turns out all parts, and the drum itself, had a fair amount of metal balls inside them. They're mostly a matte black colour, and my second guess was seeds of some kind, but a quick rummage for a magnet showed me that these were all metal. No idea why they're there. I assume it has something to do with the manufacturing process - maybe something to do with either finishing or welding?This meant I had to try and get all the metal balls out of the drum, through the little hole, and thrown safely away before I could use the thing. It was not a fun task in the slightest. In the end, gluing a magnet to a long dowel so I could collect them all at the opposite side seems to have done the trick. Mostly I'm glad I noticed immediately instead of ending up with lots of them scattered over my hallway floor... maybe this is normal for all lawn rollers; I've never owned one before, but it seems very odd to me :)So to summarise - it does what it's supposed to do well. I wish it had an adjustable length handle, or even a few extension pieces to give folks more options. It is very easy to assemble. It is very frustrating to have to remove a lot of tiny mystery-metal balls from the inside of a large metal cylinder with a small hole in one end (especially when it is imperative that the cylinder not be harmed!).Is it worth the slightly cheaper price to get this roller, if it comes with the need to fiddle with magnets and sticks? Maybe for you, but this time it's not for me.

I have this filled with sand and it is certainly heavy enough. I've been using it to compact a gravel path and it works really well. Easy assembly and easy to use. If I had a complaint it would be that it should come with a funnel for filling as the hole is quite small. Not a deal breaker though.
